Xiaomi has taken a huge foot step by launcing its own SoC Chipset, Surge S1. Xiaomi is the 4th company to manufactor its own Chipset after Apple (A chipset), Samsung (Exynos) and Huawei (Kirin). Xiaomi along with its subsidiary Pinecone are making the Surge S1 and it was first tested on the Xiaomi Mi 5C. First of all what is SOC? SOC is called System On a Chip which contains CPU, GPU, WiFi module etc. So what so special about the new Surge S1 chipset when compared with the Qualcomm Snapdragon Processor? lets discuss in this post. Here are the details of the Surge S1 Chipset that was recently launched by the Xiaomi.
Surge S1 SoC Specification and full details
These are the some of the key features highlighted by the Xiaomi about its new Surge S1 Soc.
- Octa-core 64-bit chipset (4xA53 cores 2.2GHz + 4xA53 cores 1.4GHz)
- Mali-T860 quad-core GPU
- 28nm High Performance Computing Process
- 32-bit high-performance DSP for voice processing
- Surge ISP algorithm improves camera light sensitivity by 150%
- 4K video recording capability at 30fps
- VoLTE Call and video support
- Upgradable baseband; programmable modem, OTA upgradeable
- Supports 9V2A fast charging
- Dual noise reduction algorithm
- 14-bit dual ISP; enhanced image processing capabilities
The Surge S1 is the 64bit Octa Core chipset with 4xA53 high-performance ARM Cortex cores clocked at 2.2 GHz and 4xA53 power efficient ARM Cortex cores clocked at 1.4 GHz. The GPU that has been used on the Surge S1 is the Mali-T860 quad-core GPU. The Surge S1 is disigned with 28nm HPc process technology. This new chipset can enhance the image processing capabilities with the 14-bit dual ISP.
The Surge S1 will support the VoLTE calls and videos and also enables the fast charging capability. It uses the TEE architecture as the Chipset security to ensure safety. The Surge S1 managed to get the AnTuTU Benchmark score of 64,817 which is higher than the Snapdragon 625 and MediaTek P10, P20.
So, these are the some of the features offered by the new Surge S1 chipset. The Surge S1 will directly compete with the Snapdragon 625 and MediaTek P10, P20. But we have to wait untill we see how it performs in the real environment. After all these we have to wait to see wheather Xiaomi will actually bring the Surge S1 Chipset to India and other countries by clearing the paper works.
