Coolpad Dazen 1 Review
Design & Look
The phone looks good in the hands and it is made up of plastic. The quality of the plastic is good for the price and even the Volume rockers and the power button is made of Plastic.Coming to the design part, the Coolpad Dazen 1 has the head speaker at the top and to the right of it the front camera and LED Notification light is placed. On the bottom of the display, there are three LED backlighted navigation buttons. On the bottom side of the phone, there is MIC and a charger port.To the left, there is a Volume button and a power button on the right side.On the top of the top, there is a 3.5mm headphone jack but inside the box of Dazen 1 there is no headset provided.
On the rear side, there is an 8MP primary camera with LED Flash.Above the Camera, there is a Mic for a noise cancelation purpose. Also, you can find the Dazen and a Coolpad Logo with some glittering texture. At the bottom of the rear side, there is a small opening for Speaker. The rear back panel has a plastic finish and I feel the phone is so slippery. The phone is also available in Black color variant now and I would choose black color over White.Altogether apart from the slippery feel, the phone feels quite comfortable in hands.
The Coolpad Dazen 1 sports a 5 inches HD display with 1280*720 pixels resolution. The overall quality of the display is above average and the color looks natural on the phone. The viewing angles are great and the display is highly readable under sunlight. There is no Gorilla Glass protection on the device and it is highly recommended to have a Scratch card. The light sensor on the Dazen 1 doesn’t work great as many of times the brightness is assumed to zero in the dark conditions in Auto brightness mode. You can even set the timing for the touch keys backlight. The notification light can be set for Calls, Messages, Apps, Charge and low battery notifications. You can double tap the display to wake up but double tapping the display does not lock the screen.
On the performance side, the Coolpad Dazen 1 has 1.2 GHz Quad core Snapdragon 410 aided by 2GB RAM.It also has Adreno 306 GPU and it is a 64bit chipset processor. The phone supports 4G LTE in the first SIM which is highly appreciable for the price provided. The phone is the dual-SIM variant, SIM 1 supports 4G/3G/2G while the second SIM supports 3G and 2G. When the SIM is inserted in the first SIM it shows SIM 2 is activated so it may be in the sticker part.Coming to the performance part the phone does a pretty good job but its not great as well. While multitasking I could feel some delay in opening the Apps. But once the Apps are opened it works good without any lags.
In the gaming part, the Dazen 1 handles every game very well.Mid range games runs without any lags and Some of the High-end games like Hitman Snipper, Dead trigger 2, Asphalt 8 has little noticeable lags in High graphics settings. But once the Graphics is changed into an average or low the game is highly playable.Surprisingly there is no much heat observed while gaming in Coolpad Dazen 1 while some of its competitors like YUPHORIA, Redmi 2 gets heats up quickly while gaming.
The Coolpad Dazen 1 features the 8MP rear camera with LED Flash. The camera is not great as the Redmi 2 Camera, but it can click pretty good shots. The camera does an excellent job in daylight and the output photos looks natural and there is no over saturation of the image. The picture resolution can be set to 4:3, 16:9 and 1.1 ratio and the rear camera can record 1080p videos as well. The pro mode allows you to set the ISO, Exposure, and the photo mode manually. The ISO can be changed from 100 to 800.Here is the some of the camera sample of Coolpad Dazen 1 for the better understanding of the camera.
The front camera which is 5MP is also equally good and it can click excellent selfies. The camera does a very good job for video calling as well. The UI of the Camera looks plain and you can choose between different camera modes. Some of the modes are Normal, Picture Zoom, Beauty, Face Preferred, HDR, Night Shot, Picture Focus, PIP, Sound & Shot, Capture Smiles, No backdrop, and GIF.
UI and OS
The Coolpad Dazen runs on the Android Kitkat 4.4.4 with CoolUI on the top.The CoolUI looks much similar to the MIUI and there are some little bugs here and there.Sadly, the Android Easter egg cannot be opened even after tapping the Android version number many times. The Coolpad Dazen 1 has 8GB of internal storage around which 4.5 GB is user available and it doesnot have any OTG support. The Apps and games cannot be moved to SD Card after installation but the preferred location to SD card can be set. There is no information about the Android Lollipop update but we could except it sometimes later. There are no too many bloatware Apps which is good. There is also an option for MultiScreen Mode by which you can use two App simultaneously in single screen. There is also option to enable Gesture opening of Apps like you can draw C on the lock screen to open the Camera App.
The battery on Coolpad Dazen 1 is 2500 mAh and when I tested out the battery I was quite surprised. The battery on Dazen 1 lasted for the one full day for average use of Games, Apps and WiFi turned on for the whole day.The phone has the better battery backup than its competitors I would say.But sadly the phone does not have any inbuilt battery saving mode to get some extra backup when the battery is critically low.I was satisfied with the battery on this mobile and the UI is also optimized very well to get a good backup. The phone gets charged up from 0 to 20% in just 15 minutes and it takes around 2 hours for the battery to reach 100 percentage. The Adapter power is 100-200V, 50/60Hz, 0.2A for Input and 5V=1000 mA for output.
The Coolpad Dazen 1 is surely a deal breaker for the price and its worth every penny. If you are on a very tight budget of 6K Rupees then Dazen 1 would be the better choice. The Camera, battery on the phone is above average while the display and the performance are average. The 4G LTE Support and the 2GB RAM for Rupees 5,999 are surely adds the value to the Coolpad Dazen 1.Some of the additional features like MultiScreen option and the Wakeup gesture adds the extra value while no OTG Support is a little con I would say.For more updates and Reviews follow us on Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest.
