Vivo Y66 Review – Could have been better

Vivo Y66 is another selfie-centric smartphone from the company after Vivo V5 Plus and V5. Here is the review of the Vivo Y66 explaining the build quality, performance, camera quality, battery life and much more.

Design & Feel

The phone comes with the metallic finish and looks quite similar to the Vivo V5. But sadly Vivo Y66 misses out the Fingerprint scanner. Considering the price, the miss out of Fingerprint scanner is a huge drawback. The phone feels quite comfortable in hand and the slim design makes it easy to hold.

On the right, the volume buttons and the power key is placed. On the left, the SIM slot is present which accepts two sim card or Single SIM + Micro SD Card. There is nothing on the top while the Mic, Micro USB port, and the speaker are placed on the bottom.

To the rear, the primary camera is placed along with the Single LED Flash. Following the camera, we have the Vivo logo and the Antena cutout.

Display

Vivo Y66 Review

The Vivo Y66 has 5.5 inches HD display with 1280 x 720 Pixels resolution. It has 2.5D Glass on the top which makes the display even more beautiful. The display looks crisp and the viewing angles are great as well. Considering the price, I am still confused why Vivo is settling with the 720p display. The Vivo display has an option to enable the Eye Protection Mode.

Performance

The Vivo Y66 is powered by 1.5GHz MediaTek MT6750 processor and 3GB RAM. The performance was good and the multitasking is smooth I would say. There is no heating issue on the regular usage and the phone can able to handle some intensive games as well. Overall the performance was good for daily regular usage. It has 32GB of internal storage and can be expanded up to  256GB using a Micro SD Card. It also has a support for OTG as well. The signal reception was good and the WiFi range is good as well. The Vivo Y66 also has the support for VoLTE.

Camera

The Vivo Y66 comes with a 13MP primary camera with LED Flash. Also, it has 16MP front selfie camera which can able to click good selfie and works well even in the low light conditions. The rear camera can able to capture some good shots in good lighting conditions but needs improvement when it comes to low light conditions. The front and the rear camera is capable of shooting FHD 1080p videos as well. Here are the few camera samples of Vivo Y66 for your better understanding of camera.

UI and others

Vivo Y66 Review

The Vivo Y66 runs on the Android 6.0 with Funtouch OS 3.0 on the top. The UI looks clean with not too much of bloatware. The OS offers lots of build features and the Smart gesture as well. The speaker on the Vivo Y66 was good enough but could have been little better.

Battery

The device comes with 3000 mAh non removable battery. It could last for a whole day on an average usage and could last for 6-8 hours on a continuous heavy usage. It takes 2.30hrs to 3hrs to charge the device from 0-100%.

Final Verdict

The Vivo Y66 is definitely a better looking and well-performing device but there are much better options available considering the price. I would say the missing of the Fingerprint scanner is the huge drawback of the device.
